When should I replace the motorcycle chain or sprockets?
Chains and sprockets are not invincible, even if we keep them clean, lubricated and well maintained, they will eventually wear out. Your chain passes through the sprocket thousands of times every minute, and the teeth on the sprocket slowly begin to wear out. After a period of time, the tips of the teeth may have a "hook-like" appearance. The same applies to your chain-over time, the pins, rollers and bushings will wear out, which effectively causes the chain to elongate and "stretch" to the point that you cannot adjust it.
It is strongly recommended to replace the chain and sprocket at the same time. When new, the sprocket and chain fit perfectly with the same pitch, which means they will wear together over time. If a new chain is installed on a worn sprocket, the pitch of the chain will not be correctly matched and will accelerate the wear of the chain. Similarly, installing a new sprocket on the worn chain will also accelerate the wear of the sprocket.
